Caminetti Montegrappa Wood and Pellet Fireplace Inserts

Fireplace inserts are heating appliances designed to be installed inside an existing open fireplace, transforming it into a more efficient, safer and more controllable heating system.

At Matteoda you can find Caminetti Montegrappa wood-burning and pellet fireplace inserts in different sizes, heat outputs and configurations, including natural-convection, ventilated and ductable models.

Installing a fireplace insert allows an existing open fireplace to be upgraded while preserving much of its original appearance and surround, but considerably improving heating efficiency and heat management.

Why upgrade an open fireplace with an insert?

A traditional open fireplace provides the appeal of a real flame, but a significant part of the generated heat is lost through the chimney. A closed fireplace insert provides much better control over combustion and allows more of the energy contained in wood or pellets to be used for heating.

  • Higher efficiency: more usable heat compared with a traditional open fireplace.
  • Lower heat losses: more heat is retained and distributed into the room.
  • Reduced fuel consumption: less fuel may be required to obtain the same level of comfort.
  • Improved safety: combustion takes place inside a closed chamber.
  • Reuse of an existing fireplace: often without completely removing the existing surround.
  • Ventilation and ducting options: for more effective heat distribution.
  • Lower emissions: modern certified inserts offer far better environmental performance than old open fireplaces.

Wood-burning or pellet fireplace insert?

The first choice is the fuel. Both wood-burning inserts and pellet inserts can upgrade an existing fireplace, but they meet different operating requirements.

Wood-burning fireplace inserts

Wood-burning inserts preserve the traditional experience of burning logs and the natural appearance of the flames. They are particularly suitable for users with easy access to firewood who want the fireplace to make a significant contribution to home heating.

The Caminetti Montegrappa range includes natural-convection, ventilated and ductable models in different widths to suit existing fireplace openings.

Pellet fireplace inserts

Pellet fireplace inserts transform an existing fireplace into a more automated heating appliance. Controlled pellet feeding allows easier adjustment of heat output and operating times.

They are an interesting solution for customers who want to preserve the appearance of a fireplace while benefiting from the convenience and control of pellet technology.

Natural convection, ventilation or ducting?

Natural-convection insert

A natural-convection fireplace insert distributes heat without fans, making it suitable for users looking for quiet operation and gradual heat distribution.

Ventilated fireplace insert

A ventilated insert uses fans to distribute hot air more rapidly throughout the room and is suitable when the fireplace is expected to make a significant contribution to heating.

Ductable fireplace insert

A ductable insert allows part of the heated air to be routed through dedicated ducts, helping to heat other rooms in the property.

How to choose the right fireplace insert

  • Existing fireplace dimensions: width, height and depth must be compatible with the appliance.
  • Heat output: should be selected according to the building's actual heating requirement.
  • Fuel: wood or pellets according to operating preferences.
  • Heat distribution: natural convection, ventilation or ducting.
  • Chimney: its size, height, integrity and suitability must be checked.
  • Combustion air supply: required for correct appliance operation.
  • Environmental certification: particularly important in areas subject to biomass restrictions.

How much space can a fireplace insert heat?

The heating area depends on the appliance's rated heat output, but floor area alone is not enough to size an insert correctly.

Room volume, building insulation, climate zone, ceiling height, exposure and required indoor temperature should all be considered.

Caminetti Montegrappa fireplace inserts

The Caminetti Montegrappa range includes wood and pellet inserts designed for different installation and heating requirements.

Wood-burning models include compact natural-convection inserts as well as ventilated and ductable versions. High-performance models are also available with environmental certification up to 5 Stars.

Pellet models combine automatic fuel management with the possibility of reusing an existing fireplace opening.

COMPACT 70EP – 5-Star wood-burning insert

The Caminetti Montegrappa COMPACT 70EP is a 70 cm natural-convection wood-burning insert with 5-Star environmental certification and primary particulate emissions below 10 mg/Nm³.

Its reduced installation depth makes it particularly suitable for upgrading existing fireplaces.

Ventilated and ductable fireplace inserts

For faster heat distribution, models such as COMPACT 80V provide ventilated and ductable hot-air heating.

Among the pellet solutions, models such as AZIMUT 11X EP combine ventilation and ducting with automated pellet operation.

Checking the existing chimney

Installing an insert inside an old fireplace does not automatically mean that the existing chimney can be reused without modification.

Its size, integrity, airtightness and compatibility with the new appliance must be checked. When required, the existing chimney can be relined with a suitable flue system.

5-Star fireplace inserts and incentives

Modern biomass fireplace inserts can achieve high environmental performance levels, with selected models carrying 5-Star certification under Italian D.M. 186/2017.

Where applicable, upgrading or replacing an old heating appliance may also qualify for available incentive schemes.
