Stove Hearth Plates & Floor Protection

Stove hearth plates and floor protectors are designed to protect surfaces around wood-burning stoves, pellet stoves and wood-burning cookers from ash, small embers, dirt and mechanical wear associated with normal appliance use.

The Matteoda.it range includes rounded and square steel floor plates in different sizes, together with metal wall-protection panels for compatible stoves and wood-burning cookers.

Selection should take into account appliance dimensions, firebox-door position, floor material and all installation requirements specified by the appliance manufacturer.

Floor protection for wood and pellet stoves

A stove floor plate is installed beneath the appliance and can extend in front of and beside the stove.

It can help protect the underlying surface from ash, small embers, scratches and dirt generated during loading and cleaning.

Rounded or square hearth plate?

Rounded plates work particularly well with cylindrical or curved-front stoves, while square plates provide a regular base for rectangular appliances and linear installations.

The required dimensions should always be checked against the exact appliance and its installation instructions.

De Marinis SDPC rounded steel hearth plates

De Marinis SDPC hearth plates are made from matt-black painted steel with a thickness of 2 mm and feature a rounded front profile.

Current sizes include configurations such as 800 × 1000 mm and 1000 × 1000 mm.

De Marinis SDPQ square hearth plates

SDPQ uses the same matt-black steel construction in a square format.

SDPQ800X800 measures 800 × 800 mm and uses 2 mm steel.

Choosing the correct size

Do not select a hearth plate only from the stove footprint.

Also check the required front and side projection, firebox-door opening, maintenance space and the appliance manufacturer's instructions.

Is a steel hearth plate thermal insulation?

Not automatically. A steel plate can protect against ash, small embers and mechanical damage, but should not automatically be regarded as certified thermal insulation.

Any required thermal resistance or clearance to combustible materials specified by the appliance manufacturer must still be respected.

Hearth plate and safety clearances

Installing a floor plate does not automatically reduce the appliance manufacturer's required safety clearances.

Wall protection for stoves and wood-burning cookers

The range also includes vertical protection such as the De Marinis PAR matt-black steel panel for installation behind compatible wood-burning cookers and stoves.

De Marinis PAR wall panel

Current sizes include 800 × 700 mm, 900 × 700 mm and 1200 × 700 mm, with made-to-order dimensions also available.

Wall protection is not the same as thermal insulation

A metal wall panel provides surface protection but does not automatically reduce the required clearance between the appliance and combustible materials.

Floor plates for wood stoves

A correctly sized floor plate is particularly useful in front of a log-burning appliance, where ash or small pieces of burning material can fall during fuel loading.

Floor plates for pellet stoves

Pellet stoves can also be installed on floor plates to protect delicate surfaces and create a visually defined base beneath the appliance.

Protection for wood-burning cookers

Wood-burning cooker installations can combine floor protection with a compatible rear wall panel where appropriate.

Matt-black steel

Matt-black painted steel visually coordinates with many wood stoves, pellet stoves, wood-burning cookers and black flue-pipe systems.

How to choose a stove floor protector

Compare appliance width and depth, stove shape, firebox-door position, floor material, available installation area and the manufacturer's safety requirements.
