Thermorossi Thermal Storage Systems

Thermorossi thermal storage systems are designed to store heat produced by compatible pellet, wood and other heating appliances and release it to the heating system when required.

The range includes patented stratified Thermocell® storage tanks, Thermopuffer® expansion modules and Sanfast 50 for domestic hot-water production.

Why use thermal storage?

A thermal-storage tank separates heat generation from heat demand by storing energy when the generator is operating and making it available to the heating system later.

Depending on system design, thermal storage can be used with radiators, low-temperature heating systems, biomass generators and multi-source heating systems.

Thermocell® stratified thermal storage

Thermocell® is Thermorossi's patented stratified storage system.

It is designed to maintain different temperature layers within the stored water so that available thermal energy can be used according to heating-system demand.

Thermocell® Flat S250

Thermocell® Flat S250 provides 250 litres of stratified storage in a reduced-depth format.

It is particularly useful where installation depth is limited and can be integrated with compatible Thermorossi Slim heating systems.

Thermocell® S250

Thermocell® S250 provides 250 litres of stratified storage for compatible heating systems.

Thermocell® S400

Thermocell® S400 increases storage capacity to 400 litres and can be connected to compatible pellet or wood appliances, boilers, hydro fireplaces and cooker boilers.

Thermocell® S500

Thermocell® S500 provides 500 litres of stratified thermal storage.

Thermopuffer® expansion modules

Thermopuffer® is designed as a stratified expansion module to be connected in parallel with Thermocell® when additional thermal-storage capacity is required.

Thermopuffer® 400

Thermopuffer® 400 adds 400 litres of storage capacity to a compatible Thermocell® system.

Thermopuffer® 500

Thermopuffer® 500 adds 500 litres of additional storage.

Thermopuffer® 1500

Thermopuffer® 1500 provides 1500 litres of storage for larger heating systems or installations requiring substantial thermal-storage capacity.

Thermocell® or Thermopuffer®?

Thermocell® is the main patented stratified storage system, while Thermopuffer® is an expansion module designed to increase total storage volume.

Wood boilers and thermal storage

Thermal storage is particularly important with wood-gasification boilers because a full combustion cycle can produce a large amount of energy that must either be used by the heating system or stored.

Pellet boilers and thermal storage

Pellet boilers may also require or benefit from correctly sized thermal storage depending on the appliance, system design and incentive requirements.

Radiators and low-temperature heating

Thermocell® can be integrated with both traditional radiator systems and compatible low-temperature heating systems such as underfloor heating.

Domestic hot water

Heating-system water and domestic hot water should be treated as separate functions.

Domestic hot-water production requires a dedicated configuration or component.

Sanfast 50

Sanfast 50 is a Thermorossi module designed for instantaneous domestic hot-water production.

It uses electronic regulation and a high-efficiency circulation pump to transfer heat from the storage system to domestic water when required.

Thermocell® and Compact Slim Integra

Compact Slim Integra S25 is an example of a Thermorossi system combining a pellet boiler with Thermocell® 250 thermal storage.

75 mm thermal insulation

Selected Thermocell® and Thermopuffer® models use approximately 75 mm rigid thermal insulation around the storage vessel.

How to size thermal storage

Storage capacity should be selected according to:

• heat-generator type;
• rated and water output;
• fuel type;
• heating-system water volume;
• radiators or underfloor heating;
• operating temperatures;
• number of connected generators;
• domestic hot-water requirements;
• applicable incentive requirements.

Italian Conto Termico 3.0

Correct thermal-storage sizing can also be important for Italian Conto Termico 3.0 applications.

Thermorossi publishes specific storage-sizing information for compatible pellet boilers and refers to EN 303-5 requirements for its Lambda wood boilers.

Storage volume should therefore be matched to the exact heat generator and installation rather than selected generically.
