Palazzetti fireplace inserts include built-in heating appliances fuelled by wood or pellets, designed to upgrade compatible existing fireplaces or create new closed-fireplace installations.

The range can be divided into three main families: Ecopalex GTM wood-burning inserts, Ecofire air-heating pellet inserts and Ecofire Hydro pellet fireplace inserts.

Although all three are built-in appliances, they differ significantly in fuel, operation and heat-distribution system.

Three types of Palazzetti fireplace inserts

Ecopalex GTM wood-burning inserts

Ecopalex GTM inserts are designed to upgrade compatible open fireplaces or to form the heating core of a new closed fireplace.

Depending on the model, they can operate by natural convection and use optional front-ventilation or warm-air ducting kits.

Current configurations include front and corner models and many carry the Italian 5-Star environmental rating.

Ecofire pellet inserts

Ecofire pellet inserts use automatic pellet feeding and electronic control.

The range includes fan-assisted and ductable models such as Small 54, A70S, A78, AC78 and KPE8.

Fan-assisted inserts mainly heat the installation room, while ductable versions can transfer part of the warm-air output to additional rooms.

Ecofire Hydro pellet fireplace inserts

Ecofire Hydro inserts transfer most of their useful output to water for a compatible central-heating system.

The range includes different outputs such as Insert Idro V15, V20 and V24.

They can be connected, where specified by the hydraulic design, to radiators, fan coils, compatible radiant systems and thermal storage.

Air pellet insert or Hydro insert?

An air-heating pellet insert uses fans to distribute heat directly into living spaces.

A Hydro insert instead uses a heat exchanger to transfer most of the useful output to the water circuit.

Upgrading an existing fireplace

Before selecting an insert, check the fireplace opening width, height and depth, chimney configuration, combustion-air supply, maintenance access and any required air ducts or hydraulic connections.

An existing fireplace does not automatically mean that its chimney or opening is suitable for the new appliance.

Insert or built-in firebox?

A fireplace insert is designed especially for compact installation inside an existing or purpose-built opening.

A monobloc firebox is generally used as the technical core around which a completely new fireplace and surround are constructed.

Choosing the correct Palazzetti insert

Start by considering fuel and heat-distribution requirements:

• logs: Ecopalex GTM;
• automatic pellet feeding and room heating: Ecofire Air;
• warm-air distribution to additional rooms: compatible ductable insert;

Environmental ratings vary by model. The range includes many 5-Star Ecopalex GTM wood inserts, selected 5-Star pellet inserts and 5-Star Ecofire Hydro configurations.

Flue and chimney system

Every wood or pellet insert requires a correctly sized chimney system suitable for its fuel, output, flue temperature and installation conditions.
