Cooker Hood Filters

Cooker hood filters help capture grease, cooking vapours and odours and contribute to the correct operation of kitchen extraction and recirculation hoods.

This category includes grease filters, activated-carbon filters and universal cooker hood filters in different sizes, materials and configurations.

The correct filter should be selected according to the hood type, filter dimensions, ventilation system and required function: grease filtration, odour reduction or a combination of both.

Grease filters

A grease filter captures part of the grease particles carried by cooking vapours before they reach the motor, ducting or internal surfaces of the cooker hood.

Depending on the product, grease filters may be manufactured from synthetic fibres or other filtering materials.

As the filter becomes saturated, it should be cleaned or replaced according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Activated-carbon filters

Activated-carbon filters are mainly used in recirculation cooker hoods, where the treated air is returned to the kitchen instead of being exhausted outdoors.

The activated carbon helps adsorb some of the compounds responsible for cooking odours.

The filter gradually loses effectiveness and should be replaced at the recommended interval.

Extraction hood or recirculation hood?

Extraction hood

An extraction cooker hood sends the air outdoors through an exhaust duct.

A grease filter is normally used to help reduce the amount of grease entering the extraction system.

Recirculation hood

A recirculation cooker hood filters the air and returns it to the room.

In this configuration, a carbon filter is normally used together with grease filtration to help reduce cooking odours.

Universal cooker hood filters

Universal filters can be used with different cooker hood models when dimensions and filter type are compatible.

Some versions can be cut to size to fit the existing filter compartment.

How to measure a cooker hood filter

Before ordering, remove the existing filter and check:

  • width;
  • length;
  • thickness;
  • filter shape;
  • fixing method.

How often should a cooker hood filter be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on:

  • frequency of cooking;
  • type of food preparation;
  • amount of grease and vapour produced;
  • filter type;
  • hood dimensions;
  • manufacturer's instructions.

Washable or disposable filters?

Some filters are designed to be washed and reused, while others must be replaced when saturated.

Do not wash a filter unless this is specifically permitted by the manufacturer.

How to choose the correct cooker hood filter

Before purchasing, check:

  • cooker hood make and model, where available;
  • original filter dimensions;
  • required filtration type;
  • whether the hood exhausts outdoors or recirculates air;
  • universal-filter compatibility;
  • whether the filter can be cut to size;
  • recommended replacement interval.
